Nim's Fruit Crisps, a healthy snack

I am a bit of a crisp fiend - and I don't seem to be able to get through the day without at least one packet of something. I have tried to be a bit healthy by eating things like Sunbites which are made with wholegrain - but ultimately they are all pretty bad for my health and not contributing anything in the way of nutrients to my diet. So I was pleased to come across Nim's Fruit Crisps which are dried and waffer thin slices of fruit, bagged up and ready to snack at any time of day. Now, I do hear you ask, why don't you simply eat an apple or a pear instead of a bag of dried fruit slices? The answer is all in my addiction to a 'packet' of something - so I am indulging my craving while actually eating something that is good for me - so it's pretty much a 'win-win'.

Nim's Fruit Crisps come in a variety of delicious flavours - apple and strawberry, pineapple and mango, apple and kimi, and orange and melon. They are all 100% natural - no added preservatives, colourings or flavourings. Check out their website for orders...

Sainsbury's Home Spring/Summer preview - Diamond Jubilee

.
Sainsbury's Spring/Summer Coastal collection
It was a bright and sunny day so it didn't really feel too incongruous walking up to the ICA for a preview of the Sainsbury's Spring/Summer home collections. Even though the streets were decorated for Christmas it just felt like a slight step-change as it rapidly became apparent that we are going to have to get used to a lot more decoration in the year ahead. In case you have forgotten 2012 is the year the Olympics comes to the UK - and it's the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I must confess that in our street preparations for a street party are well under way and you simply can't have enough bunting. I expect there to be a complete run on bunting, long tables for hire and Union Jack flags - so if you're thinking of partying next summer you might be wise to book your tables and chairs now...

So back to Sainsbury's and their decidedly vintage take on home-ware for next year. Here are some of my favourites...

Gorgeous and glossy, mid-length suits her best and a return to her natural chestnut brown brings out her eye colour and works her tan well!

All the brights for Spring/Summer 2012 at Jaeger and Coast

Think citrus and soft acids in terms of Spring/Summer colours on the high-street from January onwards. I have put away my brights for another day and have entered into my winter wardrobe of muted browns and greys with a flash of jewel purple or red. So these gorgeous colours will make a welcome change when they hit the rails...

Here is a sneak preview from Jaeger and Coast.

Apologies - these shots were all taken with my Blackberry but you get the drift. Skyscraper wedges still going strong with hot orange the predominant colour at Jaeger.

So pretty - this dress with a multitude of floral fabric cut-outs makes for day-wear or dressing up at Coast.

Lots of rhinestone and gems - grown up bits of flash at Coast.

And more orange - this time mixing plains and tiny patterns with simple shapes at Jaeger.

This rail at Coast best demonstrates the mix and match approach for the coming S/S season - can't wait!http://www.coast-stores.com/http://www.coast-stores.com/

Shu Uemura Pure:Nu Gentle Cleansing Oil-in-Gel review

My skin has definitely become drier and drier over the last few years. I look in the mirror and see my grandmother's almost papery skin starting to form but if I use creams that are too rich I tend to break out in spots around the mouth and chin area.... So using products for 'older' skin is a bit of a crap-shoot in terms of 'Will I, Won't I' break out. So I'm constantly on the look out for products that provide enough moisture without being too oily and clogging. Shu Uemura Pure Nu Gentle Cleansing Oil-in-Gel is one such product...

How did I get on?
This is a really easy product to use. I warmed a little on the hands first them gently massaged onto my face - you can use it on either wet or dry hands. I then removed it with cotton wool pads. Make-up and the days dirt lifted really easily and my skin was left feeling soft and not at all oily which I had been expecting. My skin felt clean and moisturised and the fragrance, though not overpowering, was fresh. Overall a fab product!

The Low-Down
Shu Uemure Pure: Nu Gentle Cleansing Oil-in-Gel is available online  from £24.

The Scottish Ballet at Sadler's Wells

Sadler's Wells is the home of international ballet and so I was thrilled to be invited by one of our bloggers who just so happens to work for the Scottish Ballet company to see their latest offering which was only on for two nights.

I get to see ballet so infrequently I do get a bit giddy with excitement. My parents always used to take us to the ballet once a year and as a child I never left the theatre without feeling six inches taller myself and skipping down the pavement. I still feel like I want to make balletic poses with my arms (10 years of ballet classes have left me with at least a knowledge of what you should do if not any actual real talent). I want to float on air, I want a body which is an amazing machine of great strength and fluidity, and I want to lose myself in dance even if for a short while.... Back down here on earth I can do none of these things but what I can do is appreciate those that can and hence this post.

The Scottish Ballet are excellent and this night showcased a double bill. It is rare you get a full orchestra accompaniment who were superb as were the singers. The first piece was a new work, Kings 2 Ends by Jorma Elo, resident choreographer at the Boston Ballet. This used a contrasting mix of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 1 and Double Sextet by Steve Reich. We were quite swept away by the quirkiness of the choreography and the music and 45 minutes went by in a flash. The second piece was a classic Kenneth MacMillan masterpiece 'Song of the Earth' set to Mahler. If you get a chance to catch this evening of ballet do so - you'll be enthralled and will want to do those ballet arms all the way home, just like I did.... And if you don't look out for the Scottish Ballet next year - they have a few exciting surprises up their sleeves!

Clarks Originals - back again for Spring/Summer 2012

Forget Christmas and Bonfire Night and all that's in between... We are now being bombarded by Spring/Summer 2012 which is never my favourite season fashion-wise I must admit.

I love to be wrapped up. I like boots, and tights and long skirts - and scarves and a throw while cuddled up on the sofa. So Spring/Summer lightweight clothing and bright colours are nice in their way but nowhere near as comforting as Autumn/Winter.

However I do like the Spring/Summer collection from Clarks Originals. Whoever thought of revisiting the styles and shapes of old deserves a fashion medal - not only because they bring back memories of simpler times, but because they still look great!

Here are my favourites but you'll have to wait, they don't start to go in-store until January...

And from the straightforward Spring/Summer collection I particularly liked these gorgeous bags and shoes...
